Beat the Streets Chicago took 10 wrestlers to the Central Plains Regional Tournament June 7 and 8. We had all but 3 kids wrestle both styles and it was a very good experience for the kids. Most of them have only ever wrestled Freestyle and had never wrestled Greco but they all jumped at the opportunity to wrestle both styles.
Everyone wrestled to the best of their ability. We had two more qualifiers who will go on to represent Team Illinois at the national tournament in Fargo this July: one in Greco and one in freestyle. Alex Amira took third at 106 Junior Freestyle and Julian Valtierrez took fourth at 120 Junior Greco. It was a lot of really good competition for these guys.
We also took the opportunity of being in Kansas to explore nature. We went to Jacobs Cave which was a really cool experience for our guys and myself. I personally have never done anything like that and thought it was super cool. We saw Dire Wolf and Giant Bear bones which was really cool and all the kids really enjoyed that time there.
Shout out to Beat the Streets Chicago Board President - and Chicago Hope Academy Head Wrestling Coach - Dan Willis for making the trip happen for our wrestlers.
