Meet AJ Video

When AJ joined Beat the Streets in 2022, the love for wrestling was there, but AJ needed more. By fully buying into our program, AJ became a 360 kid quickly—getting rides to practice, receiving extra tutoring, and joining our Life Champions Academy. Our coaches noticed AJ’s determination to work hard on and off the mat, becoming the best version of AJ.

But one of AJ’s biggest hurdles was learning to trust. Through countless rides, tough conversations, and life lessons, Coach Sammie slowly built abond with AJ grounded in trust, love, and truth, guiding AJ through significant life decisions.

When AJ’s ankle snapped at Fargo, the BTSC community rallied—checking in, delivering care packages, and offering daily support. But that setback didn’t stop AJ. AJ returned stronger, winning the Chicago Public League championship and placing 3rd at IHSA State last spring.

Now, AJ has built lasting bonds with many adults in the Beat the Streets community. This fall, Coach Leila, our Enrichment Coordinator, worked closely with AJ to prepare for life after high school. As a result, AJ was accepted into a dozen schools, including two top choices. With Coach Sammie's help connecting with collegiate coaches, AJ plans to wrestle at the next level while pursuing a nursing degree. AJ is well on the path to becoming a Life Champion.
